Carved out of Jodhpur district on 7 August 2023, with headquarters at Phalodi town. Lying in the driest part of the Thar Desert, it is known as Rajasthan's 'salt city' for its extensive inland salt pans, and has more recently emerged as a hub for large-scale solar power projects.
