One of Hinduism's seven sacred cities, on the banks of the Shipra River. Home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple and the ancient Jantar Mantar observatory; hosts the Simhastha Kumbh Mela roughly every 12 years, with the 2028 edition expected to draw around 40 crore pilgrims. Nagda, within the district, is a major viscose staple fiber manufacturing hub.
