District Profile · Delhi
South East Delhi
- Defence Colony
- Headquarters
- Population
- No independent 2011 figure (created after the 2011 Census)
- Area
- ~102 km² (commonly cited estimate)
Carved out of South, New and East Delhi in September 2012 — because it postdates the 2011 Census, no independent population, density, literacy or sex-ratio figure for this district exists; estimates circulate (roughly 1.5 million) but should be treated as unverified rather than an official count. Seven assembly seats fall within it: Badarpur, Jangpura, Kalkaji, Kasturba Nagar, Okhla, Sangam Vihar, and Tughlakabad. Home to Nehru Place (an IT/electronics hub), the Lajpat Nagar and New Friends Colony markets, Khan Market, the Chittaranjan Park Bengali enclave, and Jamia Millia Islamia in Okhla — one of Delhi's most affluent districts outside Lutyens' Delhi. Served by the Violet Line (Nehru Place, Kalkaji Mandir, Govindpuri). Unaffected by the January 2026 reorganisation.
