Shrunk on 1 January 2026 when its Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar subdivisions were carved off into the new Old Delhi district, leaving a smaller Central Delhi centred on Daryaganj and Karol Bagh. Population had already declined 10.5% between 2001 and 2011 as residents moved to newer suburbs. Home to the Karol Bagh shopping district, ITO, and Kashmiri Gate, a triple interchange where the Red, Yellow and Violet Delhi Metro lines meet.
